Bee mortality : the industry closely monitors the situation
The phenomenon of bee mortality seems to spread itself to several areas in France : first the Gers has been mentioned, today it is Brittany with observations in the Morbihan area, the Saône is also concerned.
These different elements are very preoccupying for the beekeepers affected, as well as for the crops which are not being pollinated anymore : the plant protection industry follows the developments of these regional situations with particular attention.
The results of the analyses carried out, should rapidly pinpoint the cause of this damage and the industry hopes they will be published soon. It also wishes that all possible factors affecting mortality will be taken into account : disease outbreaks, weather etc…because nothing indicates today that any active ingredient can be accused.
However, if results were to show that certain products or the implementation of certain crop protection methods were to be responsible, even partly, for the damage, it would be suitable, for the industry, the administration and the farmers, to take the measures necessary in any crisis situation and to review the approval and usage conditions of the incriminated products.
Companies have long regretted that they have not been able to collaborate with the professionals and await any request on behalf of the latter to work together on the implementation of the necessary arrangements to safeguard bees.
UIPP wishes to emphasize once again that bee protection is one of the milestones of the registration procedure ; each company provides extensive studies to assess this hazard in support of its toxicological, ecotoxicological and biological dossier.
